A newborn baby has only three demands. They are warmth in the arms of its mother, food from her breasts, and security in the knowledge of her presence. Breastfeeding satisfies all three.
~ Grantly Dick-Read

While breastfeeding is normal and natural, it's not always easy. Getting help is not a sign of weakness and doesn't mean that you are doing something wrong. Sometimes it takes a little extra support to perfect the art of breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is a journey; we would love to walk you through any bumps you find along the way.

Chantal and Lisa both hold certificates in breastfeeding counselling from Douglas College. They are mothers who have been there and understand what you might be going through.

If you are planning on giving birth at Kelowna General Hospital, please keep in mind that there are no lactation consultant services available to you. Many mothers report that they have received conflicting advice during their stay.

Breastfeeding support can be provided at the hospital or at your home. It can even be arranged before the birth of your child to ensure a good start to breastfeeding.
